Eastie, or East Boston, is a Boston, Massachusetts neighborhood with around 40,000 residents. The community was created by linking multiple islands utilizing landfill. In 1836, East Boston was annexed by Boston. It's bordered by Winthrop, the Chelsea Creek and Revere, as well as separated from the city proper by Boston Harbor.
Initially a center of shipbuilding, it always has been a community of immigrants. Nowadays its population is largely made up of Italian-Americans as well as immigrants from Southeast Asia, South and Central America. This diversity is reflected within the community's plethora of ethnic restaurants. In 1870, the nation's original branch library was constructed in East Boston. The housing is a mix of new and old, which includes multiple restored triple-deckers. Logan Airport is situated here, making this area a gateway to individuals from around the world. Situated across Boston Harbor, residents of East Boston appreciate fabulous waterfront scenery of the city skyline.
